Things You Can Do to Support Immigrants & Refugees

1.
Get Informed

It's not enough to just read the headlines. There is a lot of information circulating—creating chaos, confusion, and fear. Dispel the fear. Learn the facts.

2.
Know Your Rights & the Rights of Others

Everyone is given basic rights under the U.S. Constitution, no matter who is President

3.
Take a Pro Bono Case

We will provide any necessary training! And the commitment doesn't have to be a full case. There is a full range of need. You could:

  • Assist at a Clinic or Presentation
  • Mentor a New Attorney & Act as a Reference for Their Questions
  • Co-counsel a Case
  • Accept a Pro Bono Case for Full Representation

4.
Speak Spanish or Arabic?

  • Provide Interpretation at a Clinic

5.
Contact Your Representative

Advocate for our immigrant and refugee friends. Advocate for community organizations that serve them. Thank them for supporting the causes you care about.

6.
Help Spread the Word

You are an influencer. Who in your circle needs to learn more about immigration or refugee assistance?

  • Invite ABLE to present at a board meeting at a partner organization
  • Set a time for ABLE to present at a professional or networking organization
  • Schedule a meeting with a key supporter or influencer
  • Send a letter or note to a friend or colleague and introduce them to ABLE's work
  • Share Know Your Rights information
  • Host a fundraising or awareness event

7.
Host a Welcoming Dinner

Not an attorney? Don't speak any other languages? Open up your home to a refugee family and share a meal.

8.
If You See Something, Say Something

Report incidences of hate in your community.

9.
Learn About DACA

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is likely to be eliminated in the first 100 days of President Trump's term, leaving those currently living with this status extremely vulnerable.

Contact Your Faith Leader

Many faith communities have already shown their support for immigrants and refugees. Find the initiative in your own faith community:
